DJABE25 – Anniversary Show in Budapest

At the DJABE25 concert, all historic line-up of Djabe played selected songs from the first album released in 1996 to the 2020 album The Magic Stag. The live album thus has a very unique tracklist, including several rarely played compositions. These include Déjà Vu, Underwater Sunlight, Reproach, and Slices of Life.

The concert opened with the lineup from the 1996 album, featuring Tibor Karvaly. This was followed by songs from the era of Ferenc Muck, Attila Égerházi, and Tamás Barabás including “Coffee Break,” “Witchi Tai To,” and “Underwater Sunlight.” Of course, the band’s current members made the sound even more complete.

This was followed by “Szemrehányás,” the iconic composition from “Sheafs Are Dancind” album, featuring Ferenc Kovács on violin and Zoltán Kovács on keyboards. András Sipos could be heard and seen on a screen recording alongside his fellow musicians. Before the intermission, “Slices of Life” was performed with Ferenc Muck on saxophone, alongside Áron Koós-Hutás representing the horn section. Before the intermission, Steve Hackett also made an appearance via recording, and with the help of video and audio footage from the Covid concerts, a Genesis classic, “In That Quiet Earth,” was performed.

After the intermission, the spotlight turned to the post -2016 line-up of Djabe, with the album “The Magic Stag” played. László Szabó on sitar, Tibor Karvaly on violin, and Ferenc Muck on saxophone contributed to the album. They all took the stage alongside Djabe’s regular members. The closing number was “4000,” made memorable by János Nagy’s piano playing.
