<\/p>\nThe album \u2018Slices of Life \/ \u00c9letk\u00e9pek\u2019 was recorded in 2005, following \u2018Sheafs are Dancing\u2019. By this time, the band had become a regular performer at major European and American jazz and world music festivals. With compositions by Tam\u00e1s Barab\u00e1s, Djabe recorded material whose tracks went down very well at these festivals. \u2018Doromb\u2019, \u2018Omachule\u2019 and \u2018Waterfall\u2019 were generally a huge hit. At the jazz festival in Glog\u00f3w, Poland, Philip Catherine, the famous Belgian jazz guitarist, watched Djabe\u2019s performance and asked for the sheet music for \u2018Doromb\u2019 after the concert. Attila \u00c9gerh\u00e1zi contributed fewer compositions to this album than on previous releases, but \u2018City of Habi\u2019 became a true live classic; a few years later, it was even performed with Steve Hackett. \u2018Rush for M\u00e9nes\u2019 had previously been recorded on Ferenc Kov\u00e1cs\u2019s solo album; a further developed version can be heard on \u2018Slices of Life\u2019. \u2018Message from Iceworld\u2019 serves as a connection link with the 2003 album \u2018Sheafs are Dancing\u2019. The title track, \u2018Slices of Life\u2019, and \u2018Sigh\u2019 are catchy and evoke the melodic world of pop-jazz, but with Djabe\u2019s distinctive instrumentation, structure and approach.<\/p>\n

Andr\u00e1s Sipos, the band\u2019s percussionist who passed away in 2007, was also at his top form and played a major role in Djabe\u2019s international success. On these recordings, Andr\u00e1s Sipos sings and plays percussion, whilst Tam\u00e1s Barab\u00e1s plays bass guitar and also performs on the doromb. Attila \u00c9gerh\u00e1zi plays guitar, whilst Zolt\u00e1n Kov\u00e1cs handles the keyboards. Ferenc Kov\u00e1cs can be heard on trumpet, flugelhorn and violin. Szil\u00e1rd Banai is on drums. From the summer of 2004 until the start of the 2005 album recordings, saxophonist Viktor T\u00f3th was also a member of the band. However, he was refused to attend the recording sessions, so Attila \u00c9gerh\u00e1zi called upon London-based saxophonist Ben Castle, who, a few days later, studied the sheet music whilst on a flight and recorded all his parts in a single day. Ben had previously contributed to the albums \u2018Update\u2019 (2001) and \u2018Sheafs are Dancing\u2019 (2003).
\nThe \u2018Slices of Life\u2019 CD was well received by audiences and critics both at home and abroad. Gigs came thick and fast. Around this time, Djabe played for the second time at the Rochester International Jazz Festival in New York State and made their debut at the famous Blues Alley in Washington. The band gave memorable concerts in Finland at the Pori Jazz Festival, in Sweden at the Stockholm Jazz Festival, in Glog\u00f3w, Poland (as mentioned earlier), in Berlin, Germany, and at the Jazzwoche festival in Burghausen, whilst the Bansko Jazz Festival in Bulgaria was also an important stop. The concerts in Livania (Klaip\u0117da), Bosnia (Sarajevo) and England (London \u2013 the first joint concert with Steve Hackett) were particularly memorable. In Italy, audiences in Udine celebrated Djabe, whilst in the Czech Republic, the crowd in Hradec Kr\u00e1lov\u00e9 did the same.
\nOf the concerts on the Hungarian tour, a video and audio recording was made of the sold-out performance held at the Pet\u0151fi Hall in Budapest in 2006.<\/p>\n
For the first time in the history of \u2018Slices of Life\u2019, the album released on vinyl, as a double 180-gram audiophile edition featuring two live bonus tracks recorded in Rochester and Pori.<\/p>\n
