Andr\u00e1s Sipos\u00a0– musician, actor<\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n

1954-2007<\/span><\/p>\n

He was born in Budapest on 14 March 1954. He completed his studies at the Academy of Dramatic and Cinematic Art in 1981. In his childhood he learnt to play the accordion and later the drums. His attention turned towards handheld percussion instruments in the 1970s. His authentic style soon made him the best djembe player in Hungary. His master was Babat\u00fcnde Olatunji. Acting and music played a great part in his life concurrently until 1998. He achieved significant successes with his percussion ensemble called Macumba, which he founded with Istv\u00e1n Bubik and Tam\u00e1s Ruzicska. They played together with such bands as LGT, Ill\u00e9s and Neoton. He was also an important member of the legendary actors\u2019 orchestra. He played unforgettable roles in the musical plays of V\u00edgsz\u00ednh\u00e1z and Pesti Sz\u00ednh\u00e1z (Fekete P\u00e9ter, Book of the Jungle), as well as feature films (Csacsacsa, \u00dcvegtigris 2).<\/span>
\nIn 1994 he joined Attila \u00c9gerh\u00e1zi\u2019s band called Novus Jam. After releasing two albums, they founded the Djabe group, which received several awards and nominations in Hungary and abroad. He lived exclusively for music from 1998. In the few years before his death he appeared in 20 countries with the group, whose successes were largely a result of his contribution.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ferenc Kov\u00e1cs\u00a0–\u00a0trumpet, violin, vocal<\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n

Born in Budapest in 1957. His father was a Munk\u00e1csy Award-winning sculptor, his mother is a painter artist. He graduated from Ferenc Liszt Music Teacher Training College as singing master, solfeggio and trumpet teacher.\u00a0During his career, he has taken part in the works of several contemporary creative musician\u2019s workshop. He was a founding member of Budapest Ragtime Band for which he performed for 15 years.\u00a0Ferenc also performed with the Balogh K\u00e1lm\u00e1n Gipsy Cymbalom Band since 1994, slowly becoming a key member. Amongst international stars he performed with Balanescu, Steve Hackett, David Murray, Hamid Drake and Archie Shepp, latter claiming: \u201capart from being one of the best violinists of the world, he can play the trumpet like Miles Davis.\u201d\u00a0In 2009, he was commissioned to compose the soundtrack for the film \u201cThe Last Report about Anna\u201d directed by M\u00e1rta M\u00e9sz\u00e1ros.\u00a0In 2001, his most notable solo release in the Hungarian music scene, the album \u2018Magony\u2019 was completed and a band stablished for performing it. This Magony Orchestra, playing Hungarian rustic baroque music, is one of the most unique Hungarian musical formations, their compositions are based on Hungarian folk music, jazz and contemporary music as well. He was one of the major performers on the first Djabe album in 1996, and from 2001 to 2016 was a permanent member and essential soloist of the band. Szil\u00e1rd Banai\u00a0–\u00a0drums<\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n

Born in Cegl\u00e9d in 1978, he began his musical career as a cello player at his birthplace. After years of studying the cello, he turned to playing the drums, for which his mother\u2019s profession as a percussion teacher gave a strong inspiration.\u00a0He graduated from Bart\u00f3k B\u00e9la Secondary School for Music in Budapest and got his degree at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music as a jazz drummer with outstanding results. Even at the beginning of his career he was given the opportunity to perform with the most outstanding jazz musicians of Hungary, such as Alad\u00e1r Pege, K\u00e1roly Binder, Mikl\u00f3s Birta and the St\u00fadi\u00f3 11. He is a permanent guest of annual drum festivals. Szil\u00e1rd became a renowned and popular performer, and often invited to participate in bands playing various genres and styles of music.\u00a0As a drummer, he was a member of Djabe from 2001 to 2016. Performing at foreign festivals, the greatest star drummers also expressed their adoration of Szilu\u2019s performance. Ferenc Muck\u00a0–\u00a0saxophone<\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n

Born in 1956 in L\u00e1nycs\u00f3k, Hungary. He graduated at Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest with a specialty in clarinet. Alongside of his outstanding references in pedagogy, Muck still teaches at numerous institutions: he actively works at Hang Sz\u00edn T\u00e9r School of Art, Dr. Lauschmann Gyula Jazz Music Technical College and at Kodol\u00e1nyi J\u00e1nos University. For his achievements in pedagogy Muck received the Teacher\u2019s Service Medal of the Hungarian government in 2012. Along his musical career he performed on literally hundreds of albums and gigs including performances with LGT, Tankcsapda and Hung\u00e1ria bands. Since the end of \u201980s Muck is a well-known and recurring guest of numerous international jazz festivals: Strassbourg, Wien, Graz, Helsinki and Tallin is just a few examples of the numerous places he performed with great succcess.\u00a0Ferenc Muck is a multiple award winner: he won the eMeRToN award in both 1991 and 1992, while in the years between 1990 and 1994 he was the \u201ebest pop saxophone player of the year\u201d. In 2000 Muck received the Hungarian Music Award for performing with the band \u2019Djabe\u2019 and he is a double gold record holder.\u00a0Ferenc Muck is the band leader of Muck Trio and Groupensax, and also a permanent member of the internationally well-known formation Bluesberry.\u00a0Member of Djabe:\u00a01997-2000<\/span><\/p>\n

Zolt\u00e1n Kov\u00e1cs\u00a0– keyboards<\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n

Born in Eger in 1973. Zolt\u00e1n attended primary and secondary school in Gy\u0151r, and graduated from Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 1998, in Budapest. Besides his studies of classical composing and piano, Zolt\u00e1n also engaged with jazz since the age of 13.\u00a0He has been a member of the band Tea since 1997. Apart from the \u2018Friderikusz\u2019 and \u2018Luxor\u2019 TV shows he is known for numerous jazz and pop music pieces, arrangements, theatrical and television performances. He was the keyboard player of Djabe from 2001 to 2016.\u00a0At Djabe concerts, during his solo piano pieces, he often ventured towards the classical. These pieces always proved to be colorful intermezzos of the gigs. J\u00e1nos Nagy\u00a0–\u00a0piano<\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n

He started his musical studies at Kod\u00e1ly Zolt\u00e1n Elementary School and V\u00e1czi Gyula Musical School of Salg\u00f3tarj\u00e1n and graduated at Franz Liszt Academy of Music with a degree in jazz piano, composing and arranging. He studied under L\u00e1szl\u00f3 S\u00fcle, Mih\u00e1ly Farkas, \u00c1kos Gy\u00f6rgy, J\u00e1nos Gonda, K\u00e1roly Binder and B\u00e9la Farag\u00f3. After college Nagy studied classic piano with Tibor D\u00e9vai. J\u00e1nos Nagy became a professor in 2011 at the Kodol\u00e1nyi J\u00e1nos University of Applied Sciences, in Sz\u00e9kesfeh\u00e9rv\u00e1r but also teaches at Et\u0171d School of Music since 2012. In 2008 he was asked to work on the curriculum for basic jazz-piano main subject and for piano minor subject. In 2012 his coursebook \u2018Jazz-piano I.\u2019 was published. In 2013, on request from the Hungarian Musical and Art School Association J\u00e1nos Nagy worked on the teaching methodology of the basic jazz-piano subject. He is the artistic director for the Balatonf\u00fcred Improvisation and World Music Camp since 2010. Member of Djabe:\u00a02016-2022<\/span><\/p>\n
