To the delight of all fans, the next collaboration between Djabe and Steve Hackett, Freya: Arctic Jam, will be available on 28 February 2025. This time, however, it\u2019s not live recordings of familiar tracks, but brand new tracks recorded in the first half of 2024. The album was made in a similar way to the two Sardinia albums. However, this time the inspiration didn\u2019t come from the sunny, warm south, but from the dark, cold north of Europe at the Bod\u00f8 Jazz Festival.<\/span><\/p>\n

Djabe and Steve Hackett – When The Sound Turns Sweet –

Djabe, what a mysterious name… but it just means freedom. The jazz fusion band from Hungary, founded in 1995, took it from the African language family Akan, which is spoken in Ghana and the Ivory Coast. The name says it all, because the Hungarians never wanted to set themselves narrow musical boundaries. Instead, they combine elements of jazz with prog, rock, pop and world music. This is where they meet the restless Steve Hackett, who also likes to be influenced by other cultures when composing his music. Steve’s extremely fruitful collaboration with Djabe came about in 1999 when founding band member Attila Egerhazi became responsible for the distribution of Steve’s albums in Hungary.<\/span><\/p>\n

Djabe and Steve Hackett have worked together quite a bit over the years. The world jazz act and former Genesis guitarist who has pursued a brilliant solo career for a long time work really well together. Their collaborations are always high quality. This live set is no exception. There is a full concert on two CDs with some bonus tracks from other shows. It also includes a Blu-Ray of the main concert. The Blu-Ray also has a documentary and several film and video clips. The video is great, but it’s just the icing on the cake for me. You just can’t go wrong with these two acts, and this is another classy release from them. \u2192<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Steve Hackett needs not be introduced here. The name Djabe, on the other hand, may draw a blank stare, so let me say a few words about this band first. Djabe is a jazz\/fusion\/world music band from Hungary who quite happily mix jazz with Hungarian folklore. Their name comes from Akan, an African family of languages, and means \u201cfreedom\u201d. Djabe was founded in 1995 by Attila \u00c9gerh\u00e1zi and other musicians. Over the years, their line-up has changed several times. <\/span><\/p>\n
